CHARITY ENGINE IS COMMITTED TO PROTECTING YOUR PRIVACY
If you are a user outside of the United States, you recognize and acknowledge that your personal information will be transferred out of your country and into the United States. You consent to such transfer through your use of the Sites or our Products. More information for residents of the EEA, UK and Switzerland is included below under GDPR.
INFORMATION WE MAY COLLECT
In addition to the information you provide, we also may use, collect, track, and store certain data automatically when you visit CharityEngine website. BIS Global uses technology to collect anonymous information about the use of our websites. For example, we use technology to track how many visitors access our websites, the date and time of their visit, the length of their stay, and which pages they view. Site or use our Products, including:
- Your IP address;
- The website that referred you to the Sites;
- The search terms you used to find the Sites;
- Your device information, such as operating system, browser type, and device type, used to access the Sites;
- Session information, including how you use the Sites; and
- Cookies and other technologies, described in more detail below, see “Cookies and Online Advertising.”
We also use technology to determine which web browsers our visitors use and the address from which they accessed our sites (for example, if they connected to the CharityEngine website by clicking on one of our banner ads). This technology does not identify you personally. It simply enables us to compile statistics about our visitors and their use of our sites. BIS Global and our affiliates use this anonymous data and share it with third parties to improve the content and functionality of our websites, to better understand our customers and markets, and to improve our products and services.
USE AND SHARING OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
BIS Global uses the personal data information you provide to answer your question(s) or resolve your problem(s). BIS Global and our affiliates also use this information to help us improve the content and functionality of our websites, to better understand our customers and markets, and to improve our products and services. BIS Global and our affiliates may use this information to contact you in the future to tell you about products or services we believe will be of interest to you. If we do so, each communication we send you will contain instructions permitting you to "opt-out" of receiving future communications.
Similarly, we may provide "subscription" e-mail services, either directly or through affiliates, which enable you to receive current news about CharityEngine or related technical services or industry specific information. For all such services, we will provide an opportunity to "opt-out" of, or cancel, the subscription.
BIS Global does not sell or rent any of the personal data we collect or maintain. BIS Global does not maintain or use any payment information beyond the immediate need to process a transaction.
Additionally, we may store certain data, including personal information, on servers located at third-party data centers. In addition, we may obtain data, including personal information, from outside sources.
COOKIES AND ONLINE ADVERTISING
A cookie is a piece of information that a web server may place on your computer when you visit a website. Cookies are commonly used by websites to improve the user experience and have not been known to transmit computer viruses, harm your computer or discover the identity of a user. Many cookies last only through a single website session, or visit. Others may have an expiration date or may remain on your computer until you delete them.
Certain pages on our websites contain “web beacons” (also known as Internet tags, pixel tags and clear GIFs). These web beacons allow third parties to obtain information such as the IP address of the computer that downloaded the page on which the beacon appears, the URL of the page on which the beacon appears, the time the page containing the beacon was viewed, the type of browser used to view the page, and the information in cookies set by the third party.
An IP address is a unique identifier that certain electronic devices use to identify and communicate with each other on the Internet. When you visit our website, we may view the IP address of the device you use to connect to the Internet. We use this information to determine the general physical location of the device and understand from what regions of the world our website visitors come. We also may use this information to enhance our website.
We do not currently take actions to respond to Do Not Track signals sent by your Internet browser because a uniform technological standard has not yet been developed.
DISCLOSURE OF YOUR PERSONAL DATA
While no method of data transmission is guaranteed against unlawful third party interception or other misuse, BIS Global uses commercially reasonable efforts to ensure protection of your data including industry-standard encryption and offline security methods in our physical facilities (e.g., your data is protected onsite by our Information Assets Protection Policy).
Other than as described above, BIS Global discloses your personal information only when permitted to do so by law, or when BIS Global believes in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property, rights or safety of BIS Global, CharityEngine, third parties or the public at large. This may include providing or using personal information to comply with any valid legal process such as a search warrant, subpoena, statute, or court order or to assist in any legal investigation or other proceeding when we deem necessary or appropriate.
BIS Global does not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 13. If you are under 13, please do not give us any personal data. The use of the Sites is conditioned, in part, on a certification that the user is at least 13 years of age. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that his or her child has provided us with information without their consent, he or she should email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will try to delete such data from our databases.
OPTION TO OPT-OUT
We only send permission-based email for marketing purposes. In addition, users always have the opportunity to opt-out or change preferences via a link in the footer of all non-transactional email messages. These options are made available when you sign-up for our email lists and in email messages delivered from our company. Alternatively, you may email email@example.com if you believe that you have received an unsolicited commercial email from BIS Global Systems on behalf of any of our customers, you may report by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
Some communications (e.g. important account notifications and billing information) are considered transactional and are necessary for all customers of our Products. Customers may not opt out of these communications.
LINK TO OTHER SITES
The European Union (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Residents of the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK who purchase our products and/or use our services or otherwise who are resident in these territories and whose personal information is used by us for commercial purposes have certain rights under the General Data Protection Regulation or GDPR.
Under the GDPR, subject to exemptions and qualifications, you have the right to:
- Ensure your personal information is accurate and can request that you let us know if your personal information changes.
- Request that we restrict the processing of your personal information (although we will still need to process your personal data during the duration of the contract and beyond for legal purposes).
- Access a copy of your personal information (and this is limited to information that is your personal information only, not to the underlying document or remaining information and subject to the exemptions and qualifications under the GDPR).
- Raise a complaint on how we have handled your personal information, you can email email@example.com and we will investigate the matter and respond to you promptly. If you are not satisfied with our response, or if you prefer not to engage with us first, you can complain to any applicable data privacy authority in your country of residence.
YOUR CALIFORNIA PRIVACY RIGHTS (CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS)

California residents have the right to request once per calendar year a list of the companies with which we may share personal information for the third parties’ direct marketing purposes and a list of the categories of such personal information shared.
